Front End Web Developer

University Communications at the University of Virginia is hiring a Front End Web Developer to build accessible, engaging web and email experiences for UVA Today and related digital channels.

The role combines front-end development, multimedia publishing, UX collaboration, and accessibility-focused quality delivery in a content-driven environment.

• Develop interactive web pages and daily email experiences for UVA Today.
• Create and maintain multimedia content (galleries, slideshows, animations, video embeds).
• Support visual presentation and UX quality across web and email channels.
• Ensure responsive behavior and accessibility compliance across devices and browsers.
• Apply SEO best practices to day-to-day publishing and page enhancements.
• Participate in website refresh projects and QA testing.
• Support additional digital features such as onsite search and calendar tooling.

• Bachelor's degree in web design, web development, computer science, or related field.
• Minimum 1 year professional web development experience (2+ years preferred).
• Experience managing websites and web design/development projects.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Technical skills in UX/UI, HTML5, HTML email development, CSS3, JavaScript, CMS workflows, and debugging.
• Experience with JavaScript libraries/frameworks (e.g., jQuery or Tailwind).
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to adapt to evolving tools and design trends.
• Background check required.

• Experience managing mass email programs.
• Knowledge of WCAG AA accessibility standards.
• Experience applying SEO best practices.
