Senior UI Designer/Web Developer

Applied Research Laboratories (UT Austin) is seeking a Senior UI Designer/Web Developer to lead visual design, UX quality, and front-end implementation standards across internal and public web properties.

This role combines hands-on development, accessibility leadership, team mentorship, and cross-department collaboration in a security-conscious research environment.

• Lead visual design, UX direction, and front-end standards for ARL web properties.
• Translate stakeholder feedback and user needs into practical design solutions.
• Maintain consistent branding, layout, and interaction patterns.
• Maintain and improve internal and public-facing websites.
• Implement and oversee front-end development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Review code and provide technical guidance to web team members.
• Manage and prioritize web requests through ServiceNow workflows.
• Lead WCAG and Section 508 compliance practices and documentation.
• Guide accessibility training and inclusive design adoption.
• Supervise web developers and support professional development.
• Collaborate with communications and design teams on shared initiatives.

• Bachelor's degree.
• 3+ years of combined experience in web development, UI design, and UX design.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UI/UX and front-end implementation work.
• Experience providing technical guidance, mentorship, or informal supervision.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with GitLab or equivalent version control systems.
• Knowledge of WCAG and Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• US citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility for government security investigation/classified access.
